Welcome to my first home business, internet marketing, affiliate marketing blog.
My name is John Steggles and the purpose of this blog which I have called “Confessions of an Affiliate Marketing Newbie” is to take you through my trials and tribulations in starting from scratch to set up a profitable home internet marketing business and take it from earning nothing to earning a comfortable monthly income within three to six months and an unbelievable income within one to two years. Well, that is a nice little prediction but let's see what happens. If you follow all of these blogs I will tell you exactly how I go about it. The purpose of me documenting all this is so that you are able to follow along behind me and see the mistakes that I made, the useless things I did and the things that I did or plan to do that will set me apart from 95% of other people who go down this trail and put me in the 5% of “gurus” who are making theses, so called “massive profits” and “residual income”.
I have worked as an accountant for the last 30 years and in the last 6 to 12 months I have received a lot of junk emails about earning big incomes working at home or making money while you sleep. Of course most of these emails were deleted straight away without even reading them. Why would anyone give away a formula for making money while you sleep if they had such a system. It sounded too good to be true and in my experience if something sounds too good to be true, generally it is.
One day I decided I had had enough of cooking other people's books so I decided I would take some time off and have a bit of a look at seeing what was happening on the internet as far as making quick money. It didn't take long to see that the buzzwords to use in Google were “home business”and “internet marketing”. The first thing I noticed was that when you do a search with these words you will get a response which is equivalent to 50,000 snake oil salesmen rushing to your door with an answer that is sure to solve or all your financial woes, while you sleep. So how was I to sort through all this information knowing, once again, that 95% of it will be rubbish and 5% will be worth looking at. I did this by refining my search words to include words like best, most profitable etc. This still brought up many interesting websites that allowed me to confidently start looking at a few but it gave me a good start. They all make very wild claims but I quickly learned to have a look at who are the people in the pictures giving the glowing testimonials. By doing a bit of a search on these people's names I was able to quickly work out “who's who in the zoo”. Who's opinion should I trust and whose opinion shouldn't I trust. To cut a long story short, the name that I chose to listen to was Jack Humphrey. He seemed to be a successful, straight shooter who had been in the business a long time and appeared to be associated with good products, good newsletter, good forums and other straight shooters, although he never returned my email when I sent it to him. I suppose this was a good sign - hopefully is he was busy spending all his “massive residual income”.
Tips:
1) Refine your search using words like best, most profitable and FREE.
2) Look at the background and success of the people giving testimonials.
3) Find an experienced, straight shooter and see what products he is associated with.
